Award-Winning Gospel Artiste Zion Njeri Says Singing About Mum’s Demise Gave Birth to Music Career
Losing one’s parent especially a mother is definitely one of the most difficult things anyone can go through in life.
For 24-year-old Zion Njeri Mwangi, it was a harsh reality that brought forth a new direction in her life as it ushered in a music career she had muzzled for years.
The brand influencer told TUKO.co.ke’s Hillary Lisimba that her gift in singing was discovered by her late mum when she was still in Class 7.
Since the mother was a reverend at their church, she often gave her the platform to hone and nurture the skill from those early years.
She, however, did not pay keen attention to nurturing it as she chose to put music aside and pursue her education.
As fate would have it, the brutal hand of death hit home on October 8, 2020, when she lost her mother and went through a difficult period of healing.
By the time she got better in 2021, Zion’s new focus was on music, as she went ahead to release four singles back to back.
Mom’s demise opened doors As much as her mother’s demise was painful, it came with a silver lining for the Heri Kwako crooner.
First, she got into music the year after the death and, somehow, managed to amass massive support from the public to heights she had never imagined possible.
Zion adds that she was overjoyed because the blessings were something her late mom had prophesied, and everything happened within a span of 11 months.
